The smile in giving and sharing/ receiving/ appreciating. the human face is made up of lovely details and when it stretches out to let go of a smile, something is changed- not just on the surface but from within.

in a world of the rat race, why not step back and awaken the child-likeness that the world DEFINITELY needs?

Annual mini-show for the Patubas Fest. We featured acoustics, photographs, songs, dances, documentaries. We tried to give emphasis on the role of the youth as catalysts of change, the wonders of pursuing one's passions and the YOU in making a difference.

"Social changes happen not because of nations but because of individuals".

It was first time to talk about issues that matter in the world right now and people paid enough attention. We hope it would not stop in viewing. Walking the talk is what we need. Though it is not easy, we're positive about the path that we are taking. In every piece of movie, art or music that conveys a message, we may not be able to move fifty people in one go. Touching one soul means so much already.

Gift-giving to kids from 5 puroks of Brgy. Poblacion, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo :) Some acoustic sessions with Kakai and Kaka, too.

5 hours of walking around, meeting small villages and warm people. The beaming eyes of the young were just inspiring and hopeful. It was a reunion with our students who have grown-up and are even taller than us soon. :) Scenic view, smell of the river, THANK YOUs from parents and kids alike. Though it is and always be an immersion to what is lacking - a decent playground for kids, more livelihood projects for the grassroots, being with the kids and being in that moment- singing, giggling, sharing--- it was a taste of sunshine.

We hope to take more steps forward. We hope to share more stories and laughter. We hope to share what is spare because we do have the energy and the good friends around the world who are willing to spread kindness.

Last November 7th to 19th, Singgit Sirkulo Founder was in Gummersbach, Germany to join the first ever International Academy for Leadership - Strengthening the Political Youth Organizations seminar. With the other 23 participants from all over the world, she made the most out of the free opportunity. Tin aims to apply what she has learned from the program especially in giving more backbone to a very young youth organization. What makes her proud is being able to represent the grassroots.

The local government of Barotac Viejo requested us again to be a part of the PATUBAS Festival celebration. On the 20th of December, we took pride in presenting our talents in a program called "DAMGO". Photos here.

2011 will be a bigger year. We aim to liberate more young individuals through arts, music, dreaming and sharing.

Objective: to encourage responsible voting especially among the youth for the Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

With a guitar and a percussion box, we walked the streets of Poblacion, Barotac Viejo, stayed in some corners and sing songs to call attention and to give away our leaflets. We also went to the usual hang-out places of the youngsters like billiard halls and internet cafes. We explained to them the value of voting responsibly and how it affects the function of the SK...the realization of the youth's significance in the polity.

This is another activity which shows that with creativity, sending the message across is more effective. Campaigning can be done in cool ways--- hitting a serious purpose.

Truth be told, our organization was born due to the unsatisfactory performance of the SK in our town and everywhere else in the country. Come to think about it, it's a great venue to empower the youth. BUT what is happening? THEY build waiting shades and landmarks instead of building the youth.

Is it because big TRAPOs intervene and make the SK a playground of their political filth? Is it because the young ones are much interested in updating their Facebook rather than participating in socio-political activities?

Sketching Your Dreams

KASINGgit Daniel did an amazing seminar-workshop for the kids. He basically shared to them the fundamentals of sketching and asked them to create a four-columned output. For the final bit, the kids stood in front of us holding each of their artwork, telling us what they have right there inside a corner where their dreams fly free. :)

Kanta Kiay Kurit Kwaderno Kwerdas Summer Classes

Today, Singgit Sirkulo sang Pamatan-on opens the Summer class for our community kids. To commence, Purok Mainuswagon kids gathered around to learn and to participate in the week-long personality development program. This includes visual arts, music, dance, writing and some storytelling sessions that are helpful in developing their skills and their view of learning.

The following weeks shall be spent with the other 6 puroks of Brgy Poblacion in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo and one special visit shall be dedicated to the kids of aeta community in Sitio Nagpana, Brgy Lipata of the same municipality.

We are happy that we take these tiny steps. As believers of dreaming, the arts and music, we polish ourselves on the process. We realize that the talents that we have are best realized and cherished when shared.

Singgit sang Pamatan-on firmly believes that you need not be one martyr to make a difference in the lives of others. You can still be your cool, kick-ass, childlike self while inspiring and influencing.

We wrapped all those gifts that were given away with love and some songs to Singgit students all over the SEVEN PUROKS in Brgy Poblacion, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo

December 27:

We cheerfully visited our students and gave them their presents which include pencils and toys. It was a sunny day. Beaming, radiant and happy.

The Anniversary Program was a success. As a fundraiser, we were able to gather people, young and old, let them share P10 and P5 each. Proceeds go to our Kawsa sa Paskwa Project next month.

We are happy to share that there are friends who have already pledged to donate school supplies, used clothes and groceries. Some are donating cash and toys.

A free Humanities lecture-workshop will come soon. We are so happy that there are young artists/art lovers who, as early as now, are enthusiastic to help us. (This activity shall involve the Barotac Viejo NAtional High School, STI BV Campus, NIPSC BVC and ROVCMS)

they reflect everything that I was years ago. I was this barrio girl who was Dancer of the Year from a catholic school. if dancing had to be learned by other kids from costly sessions, all i had to do was feel the beat and groove. maybe, Lola was my first one-man audience. though my parents weren’t there to see me grace the stage, I dedicated every performance for them because down there in myyoung heart, they danced, head on shoulder.
when I was in High School, I saw them around mercado publico selling siopao, chicken roll, cheesecakes, baked by their mother. I thought that though we had to go through poverty, I never found my self having to do such, libud. Nanay always asked me to buy from them and told me the story of their home, their tiny dreams, fluttering.

Their Father and me became friends first. He would speak to me in English and challenge my discreet strategy, argumentum ad hominem. It was their father’s music that I came to know these girls more. On stage, they can do belly dance, break dance, folk dance, interpretative, dance sports and even all those game show dances. On stage, they are the most beautiful, the richest kids. On stage, they hold no sadness and fears. Chin is right. The real poor has pride and does not beg. They can capture hearts because, no debates, they dance like nobody’s watching, nobody’s going to criticize. Founding SINGGIT is something I won’t let anyone take away, not because of “ah-she-is-so-saintly” but because I am sharing the same circle with young individuals who know how to live well.

Myra and Syra are happy people. It’s known to many that they bear the scars under the roof of their home, but every conversation I have with them, talking about their Father and his choices proved me that there are still hearts that can forgive. That human beings can understand and can dream on when assassins kill tiny dreams cause by domestic warfare and the thieves of years.
“Lipay kami ya nang. Indi man importante ang kwarta para mapamaayo ang imo talento.”

Well, yes, it is an advantage to be talented and rich all at the same time, but hearing the girls make me fold my own years of journey and smile.

For like them, like me and other born dancers, all you need to do is just dance. yes, dance.
and the world will stop, one moment, and watch you.

one of the first steps: SINGGIT SIRKULO BISITA ESKWELAHAN.

We visited Barotac Viejo National High School and encouraged students to join us. Through this, we found one of our current advisers Mrs. Dinah Venancia. That day, the students gladly listened to us and they also performed musical numbers like guitar playing and flute playing.

It was a day of learning and of inspiration.

this page shall contain our tiny leaps. this shall be our nook for what have been done and what shall be done in the coming days. founding Singgit Sirkulo is a milestone, keeping it together is a commitment and being inspired by these young people is a lifetime gift.

It was October last year when I tagged along three pals to start this group. Today, it is a happy womb of passionate sons and daughters.

realizations:

BE YOUR SELF. it took me no amount of huge money to ask people help us in order to have the performances of our dreams for our fundraising projects. it took me no pretensions to gather young people and seek them to pour out their passions for a great cause, it took me no political strings to ask the older generation to be there and heed what we are trying to shout for.

MAKE a DIFFERENCE.
